Tony Kao

Tony KaoTony Kao attended National Defense University, Taiwan, Republic of China and received Bachelor of Science degree in Financial Management in 1971. He spent ten years as an accountant in a government agency. Tony came to the US in 1982, spent one year studying account at Phoenix College, and then worked for City of Phoenix Accounting Department as an accountant, 1983~1985.

In 1985, Tony began his restaurateurship, owned as many as three Shangrila restaurants. He still owns two.

In 2011, Tony, together with Ms. Annie White, founded Am West Post, a Chinese language newspaper, and serves as Editor-in-Chief ever since. As a well respected community leader, Tony was first elected as President of Chinese Restaurant Association of Arizona in 2000, and twice elected as President of Phoenix Chinese United Association in 2001 and 2009.

Tony has been a member of Governor’s Asian-American Advisory Council since 2003.

In 1993, the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission, Republic of China, appointed Tony as a Commissioner, and then as a Senior Advisor from 2009 through 2014.

Tony was appointed as a Commissioner, City of Chandler Human Relations Commission, 1997~2003.
